AON Meteorologist for Re/Insurance model development in Prague, Czech Republic

Meteorologist for Re/Insurance model development

This role is part of Aon Impact Forecasting team, a team of scientists, developers and client services colleagues together developing and supporting catastrophe models for various perils including flood, windstorm, earthquake, wildfire or terrorism.

What the day will look like

  • You will work closely with our Wildfire Risk Model development team - mainly on meteorological side of the Wildfire model development.

  • Assist on the technical development with a focus on meteorological component of the model.

  • Develop and test ideas that could improve the performance of the modelling solutions.

  • Coordinate and eventually manage R&D projects with our academic partners.

  • Manage the collection and processing of data vital for the R&D work undertaken.

  • Communicate with various parties involved in the project, including academic partners, team members in different offices and clients.

  • Present your work on the project at commercial, academic and marketing events.

We are looking for a candidate interested in extreme weather and climate, willing to work in the bridge between industry and academia and enthusiastic to grow into an expert on this subject!

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • University degree (or in senior year) in climatology, meteorology or related natural (geo)science.

  • Technical thinking, ability to quickly learn new things and concepts.

  • Proficient communication skills in English

  • Analytical skills with knowledge of statistical methods for data analysis.

  • Functional knowledge of scripting or programming language (R, MATLAB, Python, or others). Some knowledge of SQL or other relational database tools and of GIS is also welcome!
